Rachel Schafer, LCSW
Therapist – Behavioral Sleep Medicine Specialist

Welcome! I’m Rachel, a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for helping adults reclaim their sleep.
I had insomnia for the first 30 years of my life. I had tried everything – medications, sleep hygiene, yoga nidra and nothing helped – I thought I was doomed to trash sleep for the rest of my life. Then one magical day I learned about CBT-I and it changed my life! I began sleeping with ease, it was such a wonderful shift in my life that I knew I needed to tell the world about it; so I changed the focus of my career to help people sleep. This treatment has been a miracle in my life and I’m hopeful it can help you develop resilient sleep as well!
Outside of my professional life, you’ll often find me immersed in nature, whether it’s hiking, biking, kayaking, or enjoying a run outdoors. I’m an avid reader, a fan of board games, a painter, and lover of stand-up comedy.
If my personality were a pair of shoes, I’d be a comfy pair of purple Keds – simple and neat, yet inspired with a dash of spunk and activity. My all time favorite show is The Office and favorite movie is Bridesmaids.
In therapy, I strive to create a relaxed and safe atmosphere. I’m known to sprinkle in humor and sarcasm when appropriate. However, I’m also not afraid to challenge you when necessary, aiming to strike a perfect balance between encouragement and holding you accountable for your growth.
I truly love partnering with people to get restful nights of sleep. My nerdy side gets to teach you about the brain and my cheerleader side gets to root you on and celebrate your success when you’ve achieved restful nights!
I received my masters degree in social work from Grand Valley State University in 2014. I received my post-grad training at the University of Pennsylvania specializing in CBTI and sleep disorders. I also serve as a research clinician offering insomnia treatment at Harvard University – Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In addition, I enjoy presenting at conferences such as the Texas Society of Sleep Professionals, local medical conferences, and therapist group practices.
